Analysis of titles within an OTS
Nightmare on Elm Street - 2010
The font used in this opening title sequence is Times New Roman in an off-white colour. This is effective as it contrasts with the darkness of the moving images behind it. The text simply fades in and out and this gives it a mysterious look, reflecting the sub-genre of the opening credits. We will use a similar font style and colour as we want to recreate a similar effect in our own opening title sequence.
The titles are also all in capital letters, which we will also do in our OTS. They are also not always in the same place on the screen, which makes it interesting and unexpected. We will also do this in our OTS.

INSIDIOUS - 2010
In the opening title sequence of Insidious a very basic bold version of times new roman is used. The colours become red after a while to represent blood or fear. They roll off into balls of smoke - it's as if the titles leapt out of them-selves as if you would jump out of your own skin from being too scared.
The main title of 'Insidious' is flashing red and in a very bold times new roman, much bigger than the other sub-titles. We are standing away from this opening title sequence of Insidious as the titles give off a blood feeling, and this is way too common for most horror films. We will use the idea of the words going off into clouds of smoke as this represents them disappearing somewhere that we can't see - This represents back to Ashleigh disappearing suddenly behind the trees.

The Exorcist - 1973
In the opening title sequence of The Exorcist the titles are an off-white, basic text with a dark grey shadow behind. this is effective on the dark background. The titles go down the screen, this gives of the illusion that the audience are going up the stairs. The titles are also presented in a paranormal way as they appear and disappear, half covered by a moving curtain. It is also unclear as to what is moving the curtains, this give the impression that this is a paranormal horror.
The font in The Exorcist is simple and plain, this makes it come across as modern, reflecting how titles have become more sophisticated through the ages of horror.
From this, we can conclude, it would be a good idea for us to use simple titles when making out OTS as we want our horror film to come across as modern and sophisticated.

Drag me to hell - 2009
The titles in Drag Me To Hell are a bright white colour which is effective as it stands out from the rest of the colours in the shot and some of the writing on a coloured screen were black which made them stand out too.
At the start of the sequence, the title of the film is in big white writing which fills the screen, it slowly gets larger and then the pase gets quicker and it's like the writing is coming towards you which looks effective.
Some of the titles in Drag Me To Hell sort of rot away ehich looks really effective as not all of them do it so it doesn't get boring and it's more interesting than just fading away. As well as this, some of the titles also are made from smpke and then blow away which looks good as it's something different and no one has seen that being one before.
The font in Drag Me To Hell ranges from big to quite small which looks good because they aren't all the same which would get boring for the audience watching as well as them changing place in different shots.
