props
To create props without spending a lot of money, we are going to go into a few charity shops and have had a look for some old fashioned nightie for our main character to wear and a dolly for her to carry.
We will also use chalk and other children-related things as our opening title sequence is based around children. we had the idea for a charity shop haul so that we get props that do not look brand new, instead our props will look old and used, the perfect accessories for our opening title sequence. We are also going to make our own fake blood to use on our main character and our other props.

Fake blood Workshop
Conclusion
After doing the workshop, we decided the best type of blood was the "Chocolate Fake Blood" as it is edible and looks the most realistic. It has a good consistency and colour and also tastes good. This is the type of fake blood we will use in our opening title sequence.
We may also look at refining the "Washing Up Liquid" as this is one of the only fake bloods that is easy to wash out and also looks quite good. However, it is the only blood we tested that wasn't edible and it also doesn't react well with water.

Recipes
Chocolate fake blood (edible)
- 1/2 cup Warm Water
- 4 Tbsp Golden Syrup
- 1 Tbsp Powdered Cocoa
- 1 tsp Red Food Colouring
Realistic recipe (edible)
- 2/3 cup Golden Syrup
- 1/3 cup Warm Water
- 5 Tbsp Corn Starch
- 4 tsp Red Food Colouring
- 1 Tbsp Powdered Cocoa
- 2 drops of Green or Yellow Food Colouring
Peppermint blood (edible)
- 2/3 cup Golden Syrup
- 1/3 cup Water
- 5 Tbsp Corn Starch
- 3-5 tsp Red Food Colouring
- 2-3 drops Green Food Colouring
- 1 drop Peppermint Extract (optional)
Peanut butter blood (edible)
Use smooth or creamy peanut butter for better results. Chunky peanut butter will add a coagulated look, but it's harder to work with.
Slowly mix in golden syrup until the desired consistency is reached. As the mixture ages, it will thicken a bit, providing more realism.
Add single drops of red food colouring until the mixture is dark red; the darker the better - it will look more like real, drying blood.

- If wished, add a bit of chocolate sauce or chocolate fudge for a darker colour.
- If you want a thicker mixture, slowly add corn starch (in very small amounts) and mix evenly.
Tomato ketchup blood (edible)
Squeeze 10 teaspoons of ketchup into a bowl.
Add 200ml of water.
Add a few drops of food colouring.
Add a teaspoon of corn syrup.
Mix together well, spoon onto desired area.

Washing up liquid blood (inedible)
Put half a bottle of CHEAP washing up liguid in a bowl. Add 1 Tbsp of red food colouring and mix.
This blood can be washed out of clothing as it doesn't stain. Do not use this blood with water as it will froth, and real blood doesn't froth.

Our props
In order to get our props in a cheap way but keep them looking professional we went to various charity shops.
These are our findings:
These are our findings:
the doll
The doll we found is pretty but can also be sort of scary. The
dress is old fashioned, as well as the hair and the head piece. we thought she
would be ideal as our opening sequence is based on a child, a doll makes the
audience feel uncomfortable as they are presented in a few horror films and they give off the feeling that something 'bad' is going to happen.

the dress
The dress we chose is a plain white nightie, this colour signifies the innocence of the child as that is what the colour white generally represents. This shows the audience that there is no reason for this girl to be a sight of activity as she has not done anything to mark her innocence, she has just been chosen. The colour of this dress also contrasts with the child's skin tone, the child we have chosen has naturally pale skin, which is shown clearer through the way it almost blends in with the dress.
The tea party
The tea pot, cup and saucer we used for our opening sequence are made out of china. The patterns do not match to represent something strange happening rather than a matching tea set which would come across as normal. we put fake blood into the tea pot, also to add some mystery and strange happenings into our sequence.
This is a clip of some blood we made using our own recipe when filming.
We used:
We used:
- Strawberry Syrup
- Chocolate Syrup
- Hot Water
- Tomato Ketchup
- Coffee
We used meal worms as an effective horror feature. We used these to make a disgusting dish at the tea party shown in our sequence. Just like the fake blood, the disgusting plate of food containing meal worms shocks the audience and leaves them wondering what is happening to this innocent little child.
We used candle light in our tea party scene as it created a great effect without using any unnatural lighting. This makes the tea party seem like it is made to be a secret as the little girl has waited until night time to do it. The candles give off a glow that lights up the set perfectly.
Chalk
The use of chalk in our sequence is important as we have used it to write names on the floor like A Nightmare on Elm Street. This is effective and child-like as children are known to play with chalks.

We decided that the doll that we bought looked to innocent and cute to be in a horror film and we wanted her to look more freaky and ruined. The majooity of horror films which include dolls make them look used, scary and dirty so we decided that we should follow this idea. To make the doll look scary, we covered her in fake blood and burned some parts of her clothes, rubbed her in dirt and broke her foot, hands and face with a hammer so it looks like she is very old and got treated badly, like a child has broken her.
