how does your opening title sequence use, develop or CHALLENGE forms and conventions of real media products?
We took most of our inspiration from 4 iconic horror movies when thinking about the kind of shots we wanted to create for our own OTS. We looked at A Nightmare on Elm Street - 2010, The Conjuring - 2013, The Woman in Black - 2012 and Dead Silence - 2007. All were successful and recent horror films that featured dolls and/or children, the main focus of our OTS. Some shots we tried to recreate as close as possible, whereas with others, we put our own spin on them.
Challenging conventions
Unlike modern horror films sch as Insidious - 2010, Paranormal Activity 2007, Sinister - 2012 and Let Me In - 2010 which use dark lighting to make the setting appear more scary, our Opening Title Sequence is filmed completely in daylight. This makes it more terrifying as you don't expect scary things to happen in bright lighting.
