Google trends - associal context for your horror
Using Google Trends, we were able to find out how often horror films are searched. As you can see, there is an upwards trend from 204 to present, suggesting horror is more popular than it was. It is also interesting to notice many sharp increases in the graph and after closer analysis, we discovered that these were always during October. This is not surprising, as more people will probably want to watch a horror film due to Halloween.
We also took a look at top and rising related searches to see if there was any information about what genres are most popular at the moment. At the top is "American horror." This could be down to how the Americans generally celebrate Halloween more than the British as it is an American holiday.
Seeing as our opening title sequence will be paranormal, I decided to research how often "paranormal" is typed into Google. It is interesting to see that there was very little interest until late 2009, and also peaks every year during October, again probably due to Halloween. Paranormal is currently not very researched so this means there is a gap in the market for it.
We are going to include the idea of curses and superstitions, so we decided to look at how often these are searched on google as well. It is obvious that curses are more searched and are therefore more popular, so we will focus on making our own curse rather than making a movie based on an already existing superstition, as the aim is to make money.
